Els 250 millors discos del segle XXI, segons 'Rolling Stone'

BarcelonaLa revista nord-americana Rolling Stone ha triat els 250 millors discos del segle XXI; és a dir del primer quart de segle. La selecció, que recull àlbums publicats entre l'any 2000 i el 2024, està encapçalada per Lemonade (2016), de Beyoncé; Kid A (2000), de Radiohead, i Blonde (2016), de Frank Ocean. El domini de Beyoncé és prou aclaparador: no només té el número 1, sinó que està representada amb un total de cinc àlbums: quatre al seu nom i el Survivor (2001) del grup Destiny's Child. "Lemonade és més que un disc. És una pel·lícula musical amb tantes capes i tan bella i inquietant com un drama clàssic, una matriu de desamor generacional, una celebració del llegat i un mapa dibuixat a mà de les interseccions de la vida personal i política de moltes dones negres [...] En poques paraules, Lemonade va consolidar l'estatus de Beyoncé entre els millors músics de tots els temps", diu la ressenya que signa Mankaprr Conteh.

Altres artistes amb presència destacada són Taylor Swift i Kanye West, cadascun amb quatre discos a la llista. Amb tres hi ha Kendrick Lamar; i amb dos fins a disset grups i artistes, entre els quals hi ha Rosalía, que apareix amb El mal querer (2018) en el número 22 i amb Motomami (2022) en el 78. Segons Rolling Stone, amb El mal querer Rosalía va aconseguir que el flamenc mirés cap al futur, i amb Motomami va fer una entremeliada fusió de pop global. També amb dos discos hi ha Adele, Fiona Apple, Bad Bunny, D'Angelo, Drake, Bob Dylan, Billie Eilish, Missy Elliott, Jay-Z, Lady Gaga, Lorde, Frank Ocean, Radiohead, Lana Del Rey, SZA i The White Stripes.

Com és habitual en la revista nord-americana, la llista dels millors discos del segle XXI és eminentment anglòfona, tot i que en llocs rellevants també hi ha discos en espanyol, com Un verano sin ti, de Bad Bunny, en el número 9. L'impacte que els artistes llatinoamericans han tingut en la indústria musical dels Estats Units fa que també apareguin en la llista Daddy Yankee, Karol G, J Balvin, Juanes, Tainy, Tego Calderón, Jenni Rivera, Julieta Venegas, Natalia Lafourcade i Shakira; de Shakira, però, n'han triat un àlbum cantat en anglès Laundry service (2001).

Fora d'Amèrica, el Regne Unit, Irlanda i Austràlia, poca cosa. La llista de Rolling Stone inclou Vespertine (2011), de la islandesa Björk; i de l'Europa continental, Discovery (2001), dels franceos Daft Punk; Próxima estación: Esperanza (2001), del francoespanyol Manu Chao; Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix (2009), dels francesos Phoenix, i El madrileño (2021), de l'espanyol C. Tangana. D'Àsia, Map of the soul: 7 (2020), del grup sud-coreà BTS. I la representació africana és sobretot nigeriana, amb el monumental African giant (2019), de Burna Boy; Mr. Money with the vibe (2022), d'Asake; For broken ears (2020), de Tems, i Made in Lagos (2020), de Wizkid. També hi ha el disc homònim de la sud-africana Tyla.

Pel que fa als gèneres musicals, Rolling Stone deixa fora el jazz i la clàssica, i aposta pel triangle delimitat pel pop, el hip-hop i l'indie rock, amb poca representació d'estils com el hardcore i el metal i de músiques tradicionals que no tinguin arrel nord-americana. Generacionalment, a la llista manen els artistes que han desenvolupat la carrera sobretot a partir de l'any 2000, tot i que també contempla artistes que ja eren estrelles als anys seixanta o setanta del segle passat com Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen, Brian Wilson, David Bowie i Bruce Springsteen, i d'altres que ja triomfaven als vuitanta com els grups Red Hot Chili Peppers i U2.
